Quite distant from most of the other neighborhoods of Kalotina, Balan starts from the "dam" at the picturesque rock massif Heavy Woman, as the river Nishava separates it from the last houses of the village. Balan consists of one after the other neatly arranged villas.
A curious fact from the past is that when 20 years ago a passenger train was still passing through Kalotina on the line "Kalotina - Stanyantsi", being the smallest of the three available, the railway station "Balan" serves passengers from the central neighborhood.
